The Akhaltsikhe fortress, which survived the Ottoman Empire’s conquests and the Russo-Turkish war, holds a rich history and many secrets behind its walls. Carefully restored by several countries, this fortress still amazes the imagination.
The Vardzia cave monastery complex is an outstanding monument of medieval Georgian architecture. More than five hundred rooms are carved directly into the rock, going deep into the rock and rising to a height of eight floors. This monastery was created during the reign of King George III and his daughter, Queen Tamara. Many things are associated with these personalities here: from frescoes to the history of the monastery’s name.
